That's it! The end of the 'season.'Overall, I really liked this. It ends with plenty of open opportunities to continue the story, but enough resolution to feel satisfying. I think my biggest quibble with the story over all is (view spoiler)[ the depiction of Micah's character. The "socially awkward math genius" is usually a boy, and Micah's clearly been made a girl to break that expectation. But I'm not sure how successful it is. (I almost feel like her gender could've been changed retroactively...
Am I the only one who has problems with Rafe? It is strange because I am actually rooting for the Duchess.
Tremontaine - episodes 12 and 13 The end of season 1 of Tremontaine, since there's going to be more episodes in October, sees a number of story-lines come to fruition and also sets up cliffhangers for season 2. In 'A Tale of Two Ladies', the truth about Diane and her origins comes out. As I'd suspected from the comment made about Diane and her maid heading to the city in an earlier episode, the woman now calling herself Diane started life in quite a different social sphere. Kaab is using that kn...
What as great first season it was!
I must confess I expected the season to end on a more decisive note; instead we get very little actual resolution. Still, after a beginning I didn't care for all that much, the development was good, gripping at times, very interesting as a project.I'll write a full review soon.Received courtesy of NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
A satisfying conclusion to an engaging tale.
With 'Departures' being the finale of Season 1, was expecting a cliff hanger ending regarding IxKaab and the evil Duchess Diane and the deal they made. Do like author's Ellen Kushner's writing a lot, she does add a little suspense to it, with Micah having a young Professor that understands her math finding with navigation and no one else knows. Then you have IxKaab back in the good graces of her family via a letter from her dad and then she spends the night with Tess on one of trade ships. Guess...
I'm burning through all of Riverside this autumn. At last, the long-awaited finale. This one is penned by Ellen Kushner herself and stands out as the most consistent and well-written episode yet - as is appropriate. The story tied up in a way that felt satisfying while still leaving room for the next season. There's a lot of opportunities for old characters to transition into new roles, but I can tell there's been space cut out for new characters to be introduced as well. 11 through 13 were all d...
Yay! Finished Season 1 today! I absolutely loved this series from beginning to end. Well-thought out, 3-dimensional characters, responding to a fascinating setting (nearly alternate history in some regards; what if the peoples of the Americas had made it to Europe first? It's not exactly Europe, and they're not exactly from the Americas, but the parallels are striking). Looking forward to season 2!
The unsurprising ending to a mildly enjoyable journey.
We conclude season one with episode Thirteen of Tremontaine titled Departures written by Ellen Kushner.Kaab triumphant. Diane ascendant. And Rafe gets a consolation prize.Kaab and Diane, enemies bound by common interests, forge a new understanding. Micah and Rafe receive unexpected offers of employment. And Will, now the Duke Tremontaine in name only, languishes at Highcombe House, where it is hoped—by some—that he may yet recover.Great season ender!I didn’t renew my Realm supscription (don’t us...
ahhhh, the end of series one is so bittersweet, can't believe there isn't any more until October! I've loved every episode so much!
Fabulous bring on season 2
Pretty fun series to read.
I love this series and am both excited and annoyed to be done with it. Annoyed because I need to wait for Season Two. Excited because it was awesome. It's full of intrigue, love, violence, science, sex, and economics. It explores issues of race, culture, sexuality, gender, and class, and it does it while being funny, exciting, interesting, and invigorating. It's cool to see such an experiment work so well. Thirteen novellas written by a handful of authors from the source work of one of the author...
An excellent conclusionSeason one of Tremontaine is over - but don't worry: Season two has been promised for this fall. All the loose ends from this season have been tied up, but the players are already looking ahead to new schemes.
“It must be tiresome… to live a life where all your strength came from making sure no knew that you had any,” Kaab thinks sadly of Lady Diane. Kaab ‘blackmails’ her, sort of. (What no one knows is that Micah has a new young professor at the University who also understands her mathematics.) William is moved to the country. William sees Lady Diane as her maid, the Dragon Chancellor as an actual dragon, and Rafe as his betrayer. (view spoiler)[Rafe goes to his father the merchant to tell him he wil...
I read this whole chapter with a knot in my stomach. How was this going to end?? I'm so glad it's coming back!
