A good readThe story flows easy, but gets deep enough to wish it wouldn't end. I would recommend this story and this author to everyone.
ReasonableShort and sweet, human nature always bent. Could have made a good novel if it had been taken further, now we will never know.
Zafiro's second entry in the "Thrilling Thirteen" collection of thirteen novels- though this isn't really a novel, it's a pair of short stories. Very well done, no half-stars needed here.
As a short story - it built up some great suspense, then dropped me off to wonder what happened.I would have liked more.
In The Shadow of El PasoI actually picked this book because of the colorful pic at the beginning of the book. I am from New Mexico and almost deleted the book from my kindle when the author wrote how many New Mexican cowboys "one" Texan can beat up. I really enjoyed both stories and am looking forward to reading more from Frank Zafiro. That's all for my review.
Well known for his excellent River City Series of police procedurals set in the Seattle area, author Frank Zafiro moves the action to Texas In The Shadow Of El Paso. Published in 2012 the book contains two short stories set in the fictional Texas city named “La Sombra” located just outside El Paso. As many folks in the border country know, laws and more get blurred along the border.Something pointed out in the opening tale “In The Shadow Of El Paso.” Being a lawman in La Sombra is a bit differen...
Interesting "modern" western tales.
OkThe way the stories ended is virtually unforgivable. There was nothing to it. What could've been decent stories ended up being very disappointing. Boo to the author.
Interesting read about the dynamics of living in a small town. Seems so familiar to places I have lived. A police officer is bound by his convictions to do his duty to the best of his ability even if it involves the richest man in town who says he owns the town and everyone in it. After 4 years he still feels like an outsider. He has to bear the humility of losing on his arrest of this man and then losing his job. You share his emotions as he packs his motorcycle and leaves for another place to
Nice fast easy read. You could even hear the accent in your head.CheersLynn
GreatGood book I'm glad I chose to read it . Great plot and characters and good story line as well.
Carl is a Yankee cop in a small Texas border town. Isabella is a beautiful Mexican woman that everyone in town loves, including the hapless Pete and the wealthy, powerful Jack...but most of all, Carl.Part romance, part police procedural, IN THE SHADOW OF EL PASO contains two short stories by Frank Zafiro. Both stories explore love, race, class and the ambiguity that exists on the southern border.
