This is so, so different from the first volume - the vibe, the content - and thought it was a little weak in places. Still want to know what happens yet but feel a lot of it was more easily solved than in volume one and I didn't feel as immersed.
DNFWhen the only likable character is the android, Danny, and all the female characters look and act exactly the same, it's a good time to dip out. It also suffers from the same problem as the first, with everyone spouting their depressing philosophy to random strangers. Strange that almost everyone thinks the universe is large, cruel, and empty. Could use more diversity of thought as well as character types.
Wow. Crazy, seat of the pants SF action horror hybrid. Fun stuff.http://fedpeaches.blogspot.com/2016/0...
I preferred volume 2 of this, for sure. I preferred the story and the art. It felt a bit less Alan Moore-esque self-indulgent. I'm still not super sold on it, but it was pretty good.
This one doesn't have the sense of mystery that the first had, and the plot is far more focused and less meandering. Moreci has jumped us 42 years into the future for volume II and the story told is a far more "standard" there's an alien threat to Earth storyline than the first volume's ground laying work. I found that more straight forward storyline an improvement over what was for me a fascinating but vague first volume that seemed to accomplish relatively little other than to establish the se...
Reading around I realised this book is quite different from the first in the trilogy, and based on many comments a whole lot better – in fact despite the disfavour the original arc was greeted with I almost want to go back and see what has changed, I enjoyed this one so much. This second book intelligently dumps the newcomer straight in with a really rich, mysterious world and the people stuck on it. The introduction of an android from the Prometheus school is the most derivative and poor elemen...
I Didn't Like This, Until I DidThis Volume 2 collects the five issues of "Roche Limit: Clandestiny". It follows after Volume 1, but apart from a few references to characters from Volume 1 and being set on the same planet 75 years after the events in Volume 1, this Voume 2 is basically a standalone. The story arc for these five issues is complete, although the open ending makes it clear that there is more story to be told.MILD GENERAL SPOILER. In a nutshell, we have an expedition to the abandoned...
3.5 stars - The second Roche Limit series returns to the planet 75 years after the ending of the first series and the series shifts from space noir mystery to space horror mystery. The archival materials still add some nice touches to the story. The art continues to be okay...though there are some moments that did not fully translate for me.
Revisiting the setting of vol 1, seventy-five years later, with all new characters (but one), vol 2 is superior in story and graphics, but the characters are flat, aimless, and mostly interchangeable/expendable, only discovering aim and agency toward the end. We do finally figure out what the anomaly contains, and sure, it's a metaphysical threat to Earth, but still kinda lame. We still don't know who keeps sending doomed missions to the dead Roche Limit colony, if we do come to understand why.
A bit of a different vibe - we've got an expedition 75 years after the first volume and the destruction of Roche Limit colony. Great art but less developed characters this time around. And it was much more battle focused and fast-paced than the first, which I appreciated as a sequel to such a (comparatively) dense first volume.Overall, I loved the Annihilation/Southern Reach vibes it gave me with the expedition, more questions than answers, and freaky monsters.
Certainly an improvement over volume 1, but breaks no new ground. In fact it's probably most enjoyable when traveling in well-worn treads of Sci-Fi/Action/Horror genre.
To be honest I was just bored. I only carried on reading because I'd forgotten to take it off my pull list. I really wish I'd remembered.
'Roche Limit Volume 2: Clandestiny' by Michael Moreci with art by Kyle Charles is a truly strange story. It falls into the genre of weird fiction and reminded me of the work of Jeff Vandermeer.75 years after a ship has been sent out to colonize a planet, another ship is sent out after them. No one has heard a thing from the original mission, but when the current mission crash lands on the planet, they find that not all is as it appears. There are hostile alien life forms and a strange forest tha...
Ok, so this is a sci-fi series about a military and science expedition out to this world where 75 years ago they had tried to start a colony and it somehow ended in flames. The small crew believes that they are the third expedition to the planet but they quickly find out that they are in fact the thirteenth. So... what happened to all those other crews? Something on the planet is starting to mess with their minds. I really liked this a lot and found it interesting but there was never a point in
This was an enjoyable, slick, suspenseful series. Michael Moreci is a promising new writer, who's work is full of ambition. He channels Alan Moore in his themes, touching on the singularity of time. He also takes advantage of the comics medium, juggling nice scene transitions, infographics and adding textural prose pieces to each chapter/issue to give more depth to the world. I found each chapter to be dense and satisfying...a rarity in comics these days. Kyle Charles is a crazy young talent, wh...
Good concept, poor execution. Way too much lecturing and telling and talking. Poor usage of the comic book medium.
I enjoyed the second volume of this series a lot more than the first. It is more focused, and less bogged down by outside details. The art is a bit sketchy, but it works well with the story. The story picks up years after the first. The colony and the world is basically deserted and barren. A crew lands thinking they are the 3rd expedition to the planet and find out they are actually like the 13th ... not only that, but they are not alone. This book reads alot like Prometheus, from the Alien fran...
Possible the high water mark of the Roche Limit series.
Space adventure comic collectionAlthough I’ve read and reviewed Volume 1, I don’t remember it well enough to see where the story here in Volume 2 fits in. An expedition to a far-off planet encounters conditions and circumstances which are unexpected. Some of the crew members survive as they confront their dreams and either succumb or see past them.Quite well-written, this is a difficult read but quite engaging. The artwork bolsters the story and is well-executed. It ends on a bit of a cliffhange...
Subtitled “Clandestiny.” Nice. Around an orange motif there’s an alien planet where a female badass wants to kill a monster; I’m guessing you have to read volume 1 in order to know what monster she’s referring to. From there it seems to go into flashback, but it’s not clear. The reason I think that is because the next thing that happens is the ship being attacked by a missile and crashlanding. As the story goes on there’s a woman who’s lost her memory, but I can’t tell if she’s the same badass f...
