Rainbow of The Soul

Rainbow of The Soul

Elizabeth Jackson
0/5 ( ratings)
A mainly humorous, occasionally sad, account of an Anglo/American family’s migration to the Yorkshire Dales from London and Las Vegas respectively. The action is set mainly in the Dales, but also ranges from London to Las Vegas and Montana. It is in Montana that the American half of the family discovers their Native American roots, and that an ancestor actually fought in the last great battle by the Northern Plains Indians for their freedom and for their land. This was at Little Bighorn against the United States Seventh Cavalry. The title ‘Rainbow of The Soul’ is a reflection of this background and the American link runs throughout the story. The Native Americans and the Dales people share the same philosophy: their all abiding love and respect for the land and the animals that live on it.

The family lurch from one debacle to another as they attempt to get to grips with country life. There are incidents with unsolicited acquisition of varied livestock, unwanted bee lodgers, smelly septic tanks, house warming parties, breaking and entering combined inevitably with a brush with the law. Lovesick dogs and irate neighbours, a rural wedding, an unscheduled visit to accident and emergency. Various clashes with the railways, both British and American. Visits to London, Las Vegas and Montana, all eventful and entertaining, if occasionally stressful.
