I really enjoyed the creativity in this series of creating a house from Baba Yaga’s fairy tale that travels through reality to different planets. The house itself was one of my favorite parts. So awesome! That being said, this wasn’t really a trilogy, it was one book that was arbitrarily cut into thirds - literally, the ending of one book and the beginning of the next is actually moving from one paragraph to the next within the same scene. The trend for self-publishing to chop up a story into sm...
A Wonder filled seriesJenny Schwartz has abundant talent, creativity, and a great sense of humour. She also writes with a warmth and understanding of peoples natures and issues. When I went to Mesa Verde the park ranger showed us a hogan dug into the rock. He showed us the evidence where a fire had burn the entire structure. Then he said that it was believed that the understanding was the Anasazi had burned the inhabitants as witches. I asked what made someone a witch and he said they would be so...
I'm reviewing the whole trilogy here as it's really one story. The first half of the trilogy was very enjoyable: a new idea, a novel situation and nicely written. What I appreciated most was the premise where a mature, educated, intelligent and moral person suddenly finds herself with almost unlimited power and no idea what to do with it. It allowed me to learn about the "new worlds" along with Kira and to wonder how I would handle such a situation. The characters she meets were interesting, wit
Perfect conclusion to a beautiful seriesI was a little hesitant to read this, since book 2 ended with betrayal. So many times betrayal sends stories and characters veering off into dark, dangerous territory and I really didn't want to see that happen here. Good news--it didn't!This book picks up right after the last book. The characters' actions, reactions, and emotions are proportionate and believable. Our sorceress does not change into a blackhearted villian bent on revenge; she investigates w...
Loved it!What a beautifully, satisfying wrap-up for Jenny Schwartz’s House trilogy. From the first book where she absolutely commands your imagination with a black castle walking around on dragon’s legs, through book two describing the developing relationship of a sorcerer with an unwilling, magical, cyborg elf, and finally book three where she solves & resolves an impossible, millennia old magic-mystifying riddle, there hasn’t been a moment in the trilogy that painted a wrong stroke!Except for
If I could...3.5 stars. I loved the other 2 books in this series, but what killed it for me was the (long to me) multiple explanations to describe what the phenomena was. In my mind, it was Charlie Brown hearing bwah bwah bwah. I read the sections multiple times trying to make sense of it. So maybe that was my downfall, repetition. If it doesn't make sense to you, you are not alone. Now I have loved the many series J Schwartz has put out, so I am looking forward to the possible spin-off or new s...
A very good read!Third in a series, this book brings the adventures of Sorcerer Kira to an end.The series was a journey of grief, learning about magic and her own abilities. She is able to keep her kind heart and create a new family of sorts.I could not put this series down. I an definitely going to look for other books by this author.
Excellent seriesI enjoyed reading this series, there are some very interesting ideas. The world building is thorough, I found all the different people/types of beings good, following standard forms but adding some extras. The travelling house idea is excellent, I would be very happy if the series continues after this one.
