What a wonderful eclectic style, selection of mysteries.Must confess that it's also the first time in years I was completely taken by surprise. Trey Dowell's Heat - I so didn't see it coming :-)

Overall I would classify this as an average edition of EQMM. There was a nice cross-section of story types and no readily discernible theme. My two favorite stories in this edition were two of the shortest stories: Heat by Trey Dowell, a piece of flash fiction with tight writing, outstanding suspense, a fantastic opening line, and an unresolved ending; and Rude Awakening by Twist Phelan which involves a theft and an excellent plot twist.
