The popularity of this book should come as no surprise. A Vedic revival has taken hold around the world as many millions of people now practice some sort of Eastern meditation as well as the practice of Hatha and other types of Yoga. It’s as if the dawning of a new age is causing a turning point, in which the newest and oldest traditions of knowledge are converging and being unified into a new level of understanding of our Reality.
Many now seek to understand the basic underlying tenets of the philosophy supporting these spiritual techniques. Yogi Ramacharaka does not disappoint the reader in elucidating the basic philosophy supporting these practices. For example, in Lesson One, he discusses Absolute Being and what he calls the material world or relative existence. It is on these two concepts of Absolute existence or Being and relative existence that the entire Vedic tradition is built. A very important lesson indeed.
In the Second Lesson, Yogi Ramacharaka describes how Absolute Being manifests into everyday life, living, and loving.
In the Third Lesson, the Yogi continues to elucidate on the how the Creative Will or of Absolute Being becomes the active principle behind Universal or Eternal Life – the creative force behind creation. This lesson is particularly noteworthy today as the world’s best and brightest minds rebuild the nuclear accelerator at C.E.R.N. in the hopes of finding this subtlest of energies.
If the newest and oldest traditions of knowledge do coverage in our lifetime, the world view of the west will be changed forever, a technological solution for world peace will be at hand, and Love will begin to be understood not as a romantic ideal but as a force of nature.
In the next 10 lessons, the Yogi presents for our consideration additional fundamental and sometimes startling truths. For example, how can something that is unchangeable and immutable like Absolute Being manifest into our world of everyday life? How do these principles work in supporting Cosmic Evolution ? How does the law of Spiritual Cause and Effect work given these principles? How do our souls roam free out of our bodies on the cosmic planes of the Astral World?
Although this book was written over a hundred years ago, the knowledge and wisdom discussed is over 10,000 years old by some accounts, developed long before any organized religion existed. Is it not magnificent and phenomenal that scientific discoveries today should be on the verge of validating these truths from antiquity?
