One day, I was reading through the classified section, when I came across an advertisement for a “Chief Mechanical Engineer – Dry Dock & Shipyard – West Africa”, or words to that effect. In view of my shipyard background, my curiosity was aroused and on a purely speculative basis, I sent off my CV to the advertiser, a company called Parkinson Howard Ltd., at an address in Buckingham Gate, London.
