After hearing such great things about An Ember in the Ashes this sneak peek seemed like the best way to see if I wanted to read it.It is a great sneak peek: we meet the Laia and Elias's characters and get peek at what's happening, what sets everything in motion. It's a very tempting tease and one that will have you looking forward the to full novel.(I'm currently reading An Ember in the Ashes thanks in part to this sneak peek.)
I got a free preview of this book from Barnes and Noble. Doesn't look too bad so far. Poor Pop and Nan. Hope Laia will be able to rescue Darin. Also hope Elias will be able to escape. Will read it when it comes out.
Recieved this SneakPeek from NetGalley in return for an honest review - no matter how short xDI got about the first two chapters in this sneak peek and straight away it was atmospheric, both duel perspectives were action packed and had just enough mystery but also just enough information to make me seriously consider buying this book! I am worried that this will turn out to be a typical rebellion YA but the situation and the types of characters and where it is set is very different to any YA I h...
Just reading about 50 pages got me hooked. I really enjoyed this preview. Might actually pick this up when it comes out!!!!!
This book looks so good!! I received a free sample of this book from NetGalley.
I received a copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review….The only thing I can say is WOW. This book was INCREDIBLE…You have a girl named LAIA. She is a shy, a low key kind-of girl. When her brother is arrested for treason, she decides to go undercover as a slave to try and get assistance from the rebel scholars. In the mix, you have Elias. He is supposed to be the finest soldier in the academy. Elias has considered leaving, giving it up, but he is asked to participate in a contest tha
Truthfully, I couldn't decide, whether I liked the book or not - thus I decided to give an average rating to the book. What wasn't right with the story was:The character and world buildup was very poorThe story was dragged in most places unnecessarilyFurthermore, the narration seemed very disjointed - in the sense, there didn't seem like a logical end to one part/chapter before the next began; it took me first few chapters to realize what was happeningDespite the flaws, the book was gripping and
I have never done a review for a preview, but I guess there is a first time for everything. It is pretty exciting right from the beginning. It looks like a great book. There is an Empire whose Martial invasion crushes its opposition with superior steel, and a resistance. Laia's brother, Darin, comes home late. Everyone else is asleep. Why is he sneaking around? Has he joined the Empire? Has he joined the resistance? One thing is for sure. Darin is keeping secrets. When the Empire's soldiers come...
THIS ONLY MAKES ME WANT IT MORE?????? I am so ready for this book with 9127287229292 tissues in hand and so many emotions in my body when I end up reading it completely now. I'm totally craving some cool fantasy now and An Ember in the Ashes is the one I choose. COME TO MAMA.
An Ember in the Ashes is one of my most anticipated books this 2015 and I know this will be released on April 28th--less than two weeks from now--but I just couldn't wait anymore. I need to know if my waiting will be worth it. And now after reading this, I know waiting a few more days wouldn't hurt as long as I get to read more of this book. I've only read a sample but I can already vouch that this book will be amazing. Much more amazing than what the sample gave me.
I'll admit that I was on the fence about this one. After reading the preview, I'll definitely be reading this book.If only my ARC would have downloaded.
In the fantastical, dystopian world of An Ember in the Ashes, the Scholars, a once powerful and educated people, live under the ruthless Martial Empire, which has kept them in poverty and illiterate for generations. The first chapter opens on the night of a Martial raid on Laia, a Scholar and her family. When her brother Darin is arrested for treason, Laia flees the scene and goes in search of the only group of people that can help her, the Resistance. Introduced as well is Elias, a soldier and
(I received a free copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.)This was a short SNEAK PEEK at the forthcoming novel, An Ember in the Ashes, by Sabaa Tahir, due for release in late-April, 2015.There is plenty in this sneak peek to tell me that this could be a very good book. In three chapters, we learn quite a lot about Laia and her family, scholars living under the heel of the Martials. We also learn of Elias, a soldier for the Martials, who is in the process of deserting...
This book is one of my highly anticipated reads this year, so I was so excited to see it available as a preview! The story has a strong start, giving us just three chapters, but falling into motion immediately. I am so excited to see what happens next!I am already very interested to learn more about Elias as the story progresses, and Laia has so much potential to be a kickass heroine. I can't wait for the full release!
I'm really looking forward to An Ember in the Ashes so I couldn't resist reading this sneak peek. I thought it was simply amazing and definitely lived up to the hype. Of course I can't speak for the rest of the book yet but I'm hoping it will continue being as good as these couple of chapters were. I can't wait for it to finally release!
This is just a sample copy of "An Ember in the Ashes" that I received from NetGalley (and as a promo I picked up at Barnes and Noble - they had them in a display that I picked up. It was actually rather nice for them to present it in a little booklet form.)So basically, this is a showcase of the first chapter of the work and it held my attention from beginning to the point where it concluded. It's dual perspectives that show an overarching conflict in a brutal dystopian society. I was somewhat s...
More reviews on my blog, Exploring Pages."The field of battle is my temple. I mentally chant a saying my grandfather taught me the day he met me, when I was six. He insists it sharpens the mind the way a whetstone sharpens a blade. The swordpoint is my priest. The dance of death is my prayer. The killing blow is my release."― Sabaa Tahir, An Ember in the AshesThank you Penguin Young Readers Group for providing me with a sneak peak for review.Legend meets The Winner's Curse in a breath-taking nov...
This story had a dual POV. Laia, who is a Scholar living under the iron-fisted rule of the Martial Empire. And Elias who is the Martial's finest soldier in the academy. When Laia's brother is arrested for treason because he was working against the Emperor, Laia goes undercover as a slave at the empire’s greatest military academy (which Elias is in!!!) in exchange for assistance from rebel Scholars (the resistance) who claim that they will help to save her brother from execution. Or do they? Whil...
This was sent electronically to me free of cost by Netgalley. The world presented in this sneak peak resembles something like a nation under the feudal system in medieval times. It seems to have a lot of potential to be a great detail rich story, but in this advance copy a few things need to be ironed out. Chapters alternate the character's point of view, and this needs to be a clearer transition. Each character needs to have his/her own unique voice. This is shaky from chapter one to two, but th...
**I received a copy in exchange for a review***This Sneak Peek was not enough! I was immediately dragged into the world with the dual perspectives of the two main characters from the first sentence. It already looks to be a promising book and I am definitely putting this on my to-read list. I hate reading books as soon as they come out since that means I have to wait longer for the next book but I might have to break down and read this book as soon as it comes out. The world seems to be very int...
