When reading of the great preaching accounts of the 18th Century
during the Great Awakening, its easy to see how many other great
preaching movements after that got crowded out, and even overshadowed
and sadly, some even forgotten. But God in His providence, and in His
own time, brings those men, movements and moments back into our lives
for such a time as this.
These last few years have been a tremendous blessing, as I have
stumbled upon the scene of a group of preachers who stormed the gates
of hell in England, and much of the United Kingdom.
A band of preachers who faced their day with the simple, yet powerful
means of open-air preaching to the masses. They challenged the evil in
their times with the Almighty Gospel of Jesus Christ. They were seen
at the Horse Races, Fairs, Street Corners and City Centers, they were
the Reformers of the 19th Century, and were driven by a reckless
abandonment to the honor and Glory of God.
In this small but explosive book, Frank Cockrem brings to life much of
the content which made up the body and work of the 19th Century
Open-air preaching. In this book you will read about the principles
and patterns of their evangelistic efforts, and see how they can and
must be applied to our present day preaching. Cockrem, who filled the
spot of the ferocious open-air preacher Gawin Kirkham after his death,
took on the role of secretary and preacher of the Open-Air Mission of
London. These men, along with many others shook the West with their
fearless and brave preaching. It was said that the Open-Air Mission
had over a thousand preachers scattered across the United Kingdom!
The OPEN-AIR PREACHER'S COUNSELLOR is basically a manual that will be
a beautiful addition
and companion volume to THE OPEN-AIR PREACHER'S HANDBOOK. They
compliment one another, since both these men occupied the same
position in the same ministry of the OPEN-AIR MISSION. Much of what
these preachers dealt with, is very similar to what we deal with
today, Solomon said that "there is nothing new under the sun." They
preached during the times of the Downgrade, pessimism, Liberalism, and
even atheism of their day. They thundered the timeless Gospel to the
World and to the Church. They were looked upon much as open-air
preachers are looked upon today, hated by the world, and misunderstood
by the Church.
In this priceless volume, you will be introduced to such subjects as
The Call, Urgency, The Worker's Equipment, Conduct of Service, Fields
of Service, the Preacher as as Man of God, Warfare, Soul-Winning,
Discourses, and the Undying Examples of the Past!!
Take your time, as you scan over the pages of this book, then
prayerfully ask the Lord what it is that He would have you to do in
this day, in our great time of need of Biblical Open-air preaching.
