Prophet of Purgatory
Synopsis
In Terra, there are several species of intelligent life who attain the ranking of “personhood”. The overseeing force which keeps the beings of innate arcane kinesis under control is known as the Giallian Order. A judiciary council of battlemages who link to a hivemind through an interdimensional prehistoric immortal force, known as the Infernal Demiurge Gorphel. They see to peace and prosperity, but their methods are brutal.
When a being is of age, they are issued a personage aptitude test to determine if they are capable of basic empathy, and a kinesis proficiency test – which either indicates the individual capable of paranormal arcana or deemed kinetically inactive.
The incidental escalation began with a human who had not taken either of the tests. Gregory Lindow was born to an abusive mother and absent father in extreme poverty. If he had taken the proclivity test – it would have resulted in an active kinesis ranking as he was born with a very rare innate proclivity as solar mage. Illegally acquiring the personage aptitude and inactive kinesis documentation when he wed a noblewoman as fatherly obligation.
A carpenter by trade, Lindow’s goals were being the best husband and father. With his unchecked kinesis running rampant though his life, he had been diagnosed with a madness stone and given poisonous tonics instead of a trepanning procedure. Bloodletting offered some relief.
Galactic entities, known as the Ethereal Seraphim, were the biggest threat to civilization as their drive to perfection do not account for Therian evolution. Thus, all beings are declared “impure” for not being of the utmost sound moral absolutes. Lindow was attacked by the Seraph, Camerarius, who had taken it upon himself to change Terra into the Pure world he knew it was supposed to be.
Lindow’s life was spared but he was discovered by the Giallian Order who needed his rare proficiency. Solar mages usually do not survive their own radiation but they tested Lindow by allowing him back to into society. But they kept an eye on him with that which connects their hivemind – a drop of Infernal blood in his left eye.
With the Blood Eye activating, his life fell apart. His marriage was in ruin. Twin sons with their own struggles and a daughter with severe congenital disorder – he tried his utmost best to retain normalcy despite knowing he was being observed by the dreaded Giallian Order. His wife’s confession of an affair was the final strike. The neighbour who she had the affair with wanted to purchase his land and his beloved ranger horse. Lindow’s kinesis awakened fully for the first time under such duress and he incinerated his rival. His wife believed the children were never safe with Lindow, thus, they had a physical altercation which ended with all three children’s lives, hers, and left Lindow the only survivor.
Amazed that he was capable of reabsorbing the radiation he expelled, the Giallian Order placed him on suicide watch for several years before his training as battlemage began.
