They blew up the Vet because everyone knew it smelled like a toilet. Even so, that still made people sad. Sometimes it can be hard to let go of the past. Jeffrey would have been sad too, but he had been caught up in himself ever since that little boy had died on the Schuylkill Expressway and Jesus had come down to sit. Norman was definitely sad, but he was an old man and a lot of old people live in the past… they believe too much in the good old days. And it was not too much of a stretch to believe that Phillip would have been sad as well because Philadelphia was his city - this was where he had grown up. But he was preoccupied just keeping his head above the water, what with the ex-wife, the bills and a dubious business fighting off the competition that was constantly nipping at his heels. And he tried not to think about Billy because that was too sad and reminded him of all his guilt. But actually, Billy didn’t mind any of it, nor did he probably care. That’s because Billy wasn’t right in the head; that’s because Billy wrote all of it down.
