Want to take a test of some of the best Graphic Novelist around? This book is for you. Featruing some of todays best "comic" lovers who now create graphic novels. These comics all have something do do with the topic of Recess!
I liked this book, It has a bunch of short comics great for just trying some comics out. I also liked it because I got to read some comics I had never read before. I would recommend this to someone else as a book to pass the time.
A collection of short stories from several of our favorite authors and all of them are about recess! Students will love this book and Mrs. Richards will have to buy several copies for us.
Not every story was 5 out of 5 stars, but there were some pretty amazing short stories in this comic. I loved the last one that had the kids playing around of D&D for recess since they couldn't go outside and have a actual kickball game. It's a fun collection of stories by different artist and authors. It would be a huge hit with my Middle Schoolers.
Good intro to a variety of graphic characters aimed at early elementary readers, this fun graphic-novel anthology has original contributions from popular names in the genre! * Jennifer Holm Matthew Holm * Jarrett J. Krosoczka * Dav Pilkey * Dan Santat * Raina Telgemeier * Dave Roman * Ursula Vernon * Eric Wight * Gene Yang * — Dav Pilkey's Dog-Man being the all-time favorite of my young reading companion.

3.5? I did like it but I think collections like this just aren't my style as much as stand-alone comics. The kiddo would probably have given it a 4; he's already eager for the next book (which appears to center around lunch).
Super cute collection of short bits by the monsters in the kids GN world. Especially notable for the myriad Raina Telgemeier and Babymouse completists. Telgemeier's selection is about a D&D game, so that's cool. And this is the first time I've actually read a Babymouse story myself (I know, I know). It's great as a sampler, especially if you're trying to broaden your JGN knowledge very quickly.Honestly, the standout for me was from Dan Santat, particularly because people just announced that h...

The book Comics Squad: Recess is about all of these diffrent comics that are put together in one book. One of the comics is about a club that calls themselfs the Super Secret Ninga Club and, a little boy who wants to join. Over winter break he trains hard but, when it's back to school the Super Secret Ninga Club doesn't play ningas anymore they all play kickball. There are so many more comics in that book. I reccomend this book for anyone who like a little laugh and some cool comics.
Fun anthology of short stories by popular children's graphic novelists. I've read all these authors before and found it a delight to read these stories. Some are one-off shorts while others are further adventures of favourite characters such as Baby Mouse and Lunchroom Lady. The stories are all held together by the common theme of recess; with recess featuring prominently in some and and simply in passing in others. I enjoyed each story, each being a perfect example of the author/illustrator's w...
Funny, of course, but also filled with some interesting and subtle messages about growing up and just being a kid. This is jam-packed with heavy-hitting graphic novel writers for kids. Raina Telegemeier (Smile and Drama), Dav Pilkey (Captain Underpants), Jennifer Holme (Babymouse) and more! There's some cool interlude-style comedy between the comics from Lunch Lady and Babymouse that readers will enjoy, and there are some short author and illustrator bios in the back for kids to mull over. I loo...
Eight short stories that all have the recurring theme of recess, and the antics of the children who use this time to relax from the drudgery of school work, and teachers.
I can’t believe I hadn’t read this before! I recommended the series to students based on authors who contributed, knowing this would be a quick, easy, funny read for them. But I didn’t realize how much I would enjoy it and how many opportunities there are for lesson connections. My favorite story is the first—smart move on the part of a Jennifer and Matthew Holm putting it at the beginning! I was hooked! Daryl’s struggles to become a super secret ninja—only to have the fad fadeaway as they are w...
The kid picked this up at the school library and read it. Then told me to read it as it has some of our favorite graphic novel artists featured. This book is a great little collection of Muni comics from different sources.David Pilkey! Dan Santat! Raina Telgemeier! Dave Roman! Ursula Vernon! Gene Leun Yang! Eric wright!
Last year around this same time I fell into a bit of a reading slump (yes, it happens to everyone) and I picked up a little comics selection called Comics Squad: Detention hoping that it would revive me. I'm happy to say that it did the trick. Thinking lightning might strike twice, I delved into Comics Squad: Recess! by Jennifer L. Holm, Jarrett J. Krosoczka, Dan Santat, & Raina Telgemeier which is another book from this collection. This book explores the theme of recess with the authors/illustr...
This was a cute compilation of graphic novellas from some of my favorite authors - with the theme of recess. Gene Luen Yang's Super Secret Ninja Club story was by far my favorite. It just had the essence of all his other graphic novels. Raina Telgemeier's story about kickball RPG-style was incredible. It was so much fun and the poke at the former VP made me giggle. You'll see what I mean when you read it (it's one of those things that kids may not get, but adult definitely will).
This graphic novel includes eight stories around the theme of recess. This book and the stories inside are very focused on comedy and parody. There are ninjas, talking squirrels and cupcakes, and even aliens. This wasn't my favorite book, but I'm glad I gave it a shot. Maybe it is the fact that I'm not used to reading this genre, but I would recommend it to older elementary school kids.
I’m really enjoying these new vignettes from my favorite graphic novelists. And I’m interested in the Lunchlady series. My favorites were Yang’s, the Lunchlady, and Telgemeier’s. Looking forward to the Detention one if we get it in the library.
I was craving some graphic novels, so I borrowed this from the library. I love all the artists in the book that I knew of, and discovered a new one! I want to find more of this series, and also get them for the school library.
